I lift weights and run and have been testing myself and i can almost score a 300 on the physical fitness test i just need to get my sit ups better. Im not sure how i will do mentally, but i guess no one does untill they are there. Can someone that has been to Army basic training tell me how much physical fitness has to do with it?Army Basic Training is physically demanding, that much is true. However, if you can pass the Army Physical Fitness Test before you leave for basic, you are in great shape. Part of basic training is making sure you BECOME physically fit enough to perform your duties. I was a skinny kid who could hardly do 10 push-ups when I joined and gained about 20 lbs of muscle over the course of basic.
You will exercise every morning, running one morning, then the next morning doing push-ups and sit-ups, along with some other muscular strengthening and endurance exercises like lunges, leg lifts and such. You'll be required to run obstacle courses that require some climbing, monkey bars, low crawling and stuff. Be ready to get dirty and muddy.
Make sure you practice running AND sprinting. Endurance will help you the most in the long run; an obstacle course is a lot harder when you're wearing a kevlar helmet, ballistic armor and carrying a rifle.
The most difficult part of basic training will be the mental challenges designed to push your willpower to the limits. Realize what you're there for and it will help you.Can someone that has been to Army basic training tell me how much physical fitness has to do with it?
The WORST thing by far about basic was the mind games the instructors would play. Try doing basic activities with three or four guys yelling at you and doing anything they can without touching you to distract you.Can someone that has been to Army basic training tell me how much physical fitness has to do with it?Physical training is an everyday occurrence in Basic. It is to your advantage if you are in good shape prior to entering Basic. Though, you still will be tired most of the time. Can someone that has been to Army basic training tell me how much physical fitness has to do with it?
Sounds like your shaping up pretty good Lance just hang in there - believe me you can do allot more than you think you can do and those good old sergeants will make sure you do - just keep a good attitude. Can someone that has been to Army basic training tell me how much physical fitness has to do with it?the 300s great, but do a bigger variety of stuff. climbing and hiking will make u better prepared. mental isnt so bad, just remember everyone is going thru the same thing as u.Can someone that has been to Army basic training tell me how much physical fitness has to do with it?
If you can score close to a 300, you can handle it, physically. Not to say you won't be sore - you're probably not doing all the same exercises and then there's obstacle courses and things like that. But you're at a very good starting point. I would suggest you try practicing ruck marching. Put about twenty pounds in a backpack and go on long walks. And not at a terribly leisurely pace. Increase to 35 pounds gradually.
Mentally, you're right. You won't know until you get there.
Good luck!
