Should health professionals meet minimum health and fitness standards?

For example, it would be difficult for an obese nurse or doctor to give advice about health and fitness.

Similar to the military, where serving personnel need to meet a minimum standard regardless of their job.Should health professionals meet minimum health and fitness standards? No, some of the best doctors and nurses I have worked with have been obese or have had medical problems. Their size or health does not affect how well they can give care to their patients. I think it would be unfair and discrimination to do this.

I mean, I know cops who are extremely obese, nutritionists who eat crappy, psychologists who have mental issues of their own, but that doesn't mean they can't provide awesome care for the people they treat.Should health professionals meet minimum health and fitness standards?I believe so but i'll also play both sides.

People that are health professionals and overweight may argue that they don't need to be in shape to be book smart and to know all about the health benefits of exercise. For example, someone doesn't need to be able to run a 6 min mile to know that running is beneficial for the heart and lungs.

People that are in favor of health professionals needing to be in decent shape will argue that you need to set a good example for your clients.

I believe you can have the best of both worlds by combining the book smarts with your own personal experiences. Anybody can become a PT. You can do a crash course and become one. It's amazing how many "personal trainers" I see giving out utterly horrible advice and are not in the field for the right reasons.

On a personal note, I don't have any certifications (may get one just for the heck of it) but I have years and years of experience with diet and exercise. I'm not saying I know everything but I will say that a lot of the advice I give is based on trial and error/from my personal experiences, something you can't get from simply reading a book.Should health professionals meet minimum health and fitness standards?unlike the military, we use the health professionals for their brains.

unlike the military, we can't take a crowd of idiots, and make doctors out of them.

unlike the military, we are seeking orders that make sense from our health providers.Should health professionals meet minimum health and fitness standards?
they should be healthy themselves. it shows how well they incorporate the healthy routines in their lives. I would trust more healthier looking health professionals.
