Will this be enough to maintain basic running fitness?
I've been struggling with running lately and suddenly my endurance has taken a big hit. I think exercise induced asthma may be the culprit and I'm seeing my doctor this week. Until I figure out what's the cause I'm managing to do 2 mile runs and eventually I'll build up to what I was doing before (15 miles/week with the hopes of improving this). Will these 2 mile runs help maintain basic running fitness or should I try to up it or cross-train?Will this be enough to maintain basic running fitness? At least you should take off two weeks a year from running just to rest and recover. You can row, cycle, swim, walk,or cross country ski. Weight training with light weights and high reps is a good idea too. After two weeks, try a two mile run.If it feels good, go three times a week. Then start increasing your distance by 10% a week one day a week and then do your two mile runs twice a week. try to avoid treadmills. They do not work opposing muscles. From a soldier in Alberta. Will this be enough to maintain basic running fitness? You will probably be okay in terms of basic fitness. Cross training probably isn't a bad idea though, in addition to the running. Will this be enough to maintain basic running fitness? You are doing just great, people living with asthma should start slow and work their way into the workout and cool down is also very important. With extended worm up and cool down, you should do fine.

What is the best home fitness equipment to purchase for daily use?
I'd like something that i can actually get a work out with while whatching my favorite shows. I want something decent and not an outragous price. Main thing i want something i can stick to and that will give me a workout. I'm female so i'm looking to work out the lower part of the body more then anything! What is the best home fitness equipment to purchase for daily use?I suggest an exercise bike, because you can work out at a high intensity on it while watching TV, it provides a good workout for your lower body, and you can find them at whatever price fits your budget. Another good choice would be an elliptical trainer, but these tend to be more expensive. You can set the incline and resistance on these to specifically target thighs or hip. Here is a good intro to choosing an elliptical trainer:

I wouldn't suggest a treadmill, because it would be hard to run on it unless you devote your full attention, and if you walk on it at a lower intensity, it probably won't help very much in toning your lower body. What is the best home fitness equipment to purchase for daily use?first thing in mind is a bowflex, i do hear it has great results.nada bluebook german english translation

What is best way of getting strong without losing cardovascular fitness?
I am 21, slim build, 5'10" and about 160/170lbs. I do a lot of running (c.8 miles per night, lasting 1 hour) and consider myself of above average fitness.
I was hoping someone could advise me as to how I might seriously inprove upper body strength (particularly in my upper arms) without having to sacrifice my cardiovascular fitness- getting big/strong seems to mean that aerobic exercise of forgotten?
EG, big weight training is burnt off by the running, therefore negating one another- is there another option?
By the way, for reference I am concerned about my strength and health, NOT appearance...gaining mass/definition is secondary to getting strong.
Thanks! What is best way of getting strong without losing cardovascular fitness?I think this site will answer your question in its entirety. Read some articles.

Ross Enamait has a boxing background, but you can use the same principles to workout for your own goals. Boxers need to have great cardio and strength to be effective.

Weight training will not come in ur way of retaining endurance. What is best way of getting strong without losing cardovascular fitness?I'm no expert so I would suggest you consult a trainer. You can also check out the information on exercie here. Maybe you can find a few more answers. What is best way of getting strong without losing cardovascular fitness?
I would suggest a cardio exercise that resists your upper body. Rowing would be the best. However this doesnt exercise all your muscles. If you want strength all over then you need to go on all the machines, 3 sets of 10 - 20 reps and move on to get an all over strength.
Combine this with your running.
I run, have done several 3:15 marathons in the last 2 years. My current training is every other night a long run, then in between the gym - 5 mins row or 10 mins fast run to warm up, then weights then cycle to warm down and then a swim. Include leg weights as well, that will help with running.
Seems to work - just did a 39 min 10k run at the weekend and am getting stronger I thinkWhat is best way of getting strong without losing cardovascular fitness?Calculate your maximum lift - what you can lift without straining badly, one time. Now calculate what 30% of that weight is. Do this for each different lift - curl, press etc. Do 15-20 reps and 3 sets leaving two days rest in between. Also holding weights in a locked position are good for stamina and strength. For example lift a weight above your head and hold it there until you break form. What is best way of getting strong without losing cardovascular fitness?
To improve grip you really need hand grips. With regard to weights, you need to hit the muscle groups in quick succession as this will raise your heart rate and will not make you bulky. I do 8 reps on each piece of weight equipment on a high weight. It is far more tiring than long sets of reps. I also row which helps to develop the upper body. I find that maintaining a stroke rate of between 21-26 strokes per minute and a time of around 2min30sec per 500m works for me, but I am a girl so your stroke rate should probably be 18-24 and your time 2min15sec per 500m. Build up to doing 5000m per week. You could also try spinning as some of the exercises involve upper body work. Or swimming. Combining all these things should help.

How can I improve my fitness using a bike?
I've just got a mountain bike and I want to use it to become fitter and lose some excess weight. I'm in my 20's and I've not done any kind of physical exercise in 8-10 years. I'd like to aim to be able to ride in the London to Bristol event next year (56 miles). Is this do-able for a novice? Can you point me to a website with any good solo training programmes? My plan is to start going out and doing 3 miles a day increasing this in increments of a 2 miles a week. Until I can comfortably do 30 miles in three hours - what do you reckon? How can I improve my fitness using a bike?Forget about miles right now and ride in terms of time. Start by riding for a minimum of 1/2 hour a day, and ride at a pace that keeps your heart rate (HR) in the aerobic training zone. This zone is classified as about 70% of your maximum herat rate. You can get a reasonable guess of your maximum by using the formula of 220 minus your age. Therefore, if you're 20, then your max will be about 200, and 70% of that will be 140. You can get cheap heart rate monitors that use a chest strap and a bike mount. I would recommend this highly. Go to a aporting goods store and ask for cheap basic models, you don't need the ones that have alarms, zones, calories, or bike computer functions (yet).
In order to keep your HR in the right zone, use your gears wisely. If you see your HR getting to high, shift to an easier gear, and avoid steep or long hills.
On the weekends, try a longer ride, say 60 to 90 minutes. but don't let your heart rate get above the 70% mark. Remember, you're trying to build endurance, not power.
After about a month of this - or at least 20 hours of total bike time, you can start to mix things up. Three nights a week go for one hour rides at the 70% HR pace, the other two go for 30 to 45 minutes, but do a few hard efforts that push your heart rate up to 85 to 90%, but not for more than a few mintues at a time.
Try to get 3-4 hours total in on the weekends, again keeping your heart rate not much more than 70%. At this time you should also bee looking for riding parters, ask about biking clubs in your area. You're much more likely to stick with it if you're amoung friends.
Don't ride if you feel excessively tired or are sick. Don't try to 'make up the time' - if you miss a day, or two, just stick with the schedule. Catching up on riding is like catching up on sleep, it doesn't work.
If you follow a plan similar to the above, you'll be able to do your 56 miler by the end of the summer unless you're in the 'obese' category or you have other health problems. If so, don't do anything until you consult a doctor. How can I improve my fitness using a bike?get on your bike and ride it do not se excuses to not. Any good advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.I want to know how I can get into the fitness industry? I want to become a fitness instr./presonal trainer? There are a lot of organizations you can go through to become a fitness professional. First you need to decide want you want to do. Do you want to be solely a personal trainer? Or do you want to teach groups like pilates and yoga. Once you decide, then you can choose the right organization. Of course I recommend NETA (National Exercise Trainers Association). That's who I work with. However if you do a yahoo search for personal trainer certification, you will find many organizations to train and certify you. Hopes this helps. Also you should look into institutional training. You can become a health educator, a nutritionist or dietitian through on-line study or regular classroom instruction. Touro University International has a great health education program. Which military branch has the toughest physical fitness standards?
I finally scored a 100 on the APFT the other day and I was wondering which branch (Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force) has the toughest physical fitness standards?Which military branch has the toughest physical fitness standards?I believe it is the Marines.Which military branch has the toughest physical fitness standards?
For the basic enlisted personnel, the USMC has the most stringent standards. I have been there. However, when it comes to specializing in something, you get into more detail. IE Navy Seals, their training is harder than USMC basic, but then again you have Army Ranger training which is probably equally as hard, and Marine Recon training, which is most likely quite as challenging. But when it comes down to the basics, the Marine Corps has the highest standard for a basic enlisteeWhich military branch has the toughest physical fitness standards?Depends on what you're good/not good at.
It's gonna be a tossup between the Army and the Marines
Fanboys are going to say the Marines just because they're fanboys and like to put the marine corps on some kind of pedastal. I'm gonna post the FACTS
Army MIN standard for an 18yo male: 42 pushups and 53 situps in 2min. 15:45 2mile run
Marine MIN standard for an 18yo male: 3 pullups or chinups(your choice. unlimited time), 50 crunches(2 min), 28 minute 3 mile run
The Marines crunches are easier than Army situps
The Marines are given basically 12 minutes to run 1 more mile... you can WALK that.
But I do know people who can do 42 pushups but cant do 1 pullup. And i know people who can do pullups, but can barely do 50 pushups.
Also check the height/weight standards for each branch. The Marines allow their members to weigh more than their Army counterpart.
In the United States, the Marine Corp has the toughest standards. They have the longest run required, which is 1.5 miles in 13 minutes to get into boot camp and 3 miles in 28 minutes to graduate as a Marine. They also are the only branch that requires pull ups.Which military branch has the toughest physical fitness standards?Generally Marine Corps but when you get into special forces delta, SEALS, ect... it gets harderWhich military branch has the toughest physical fitness standards?

How do you clean home fitness equipment?
I have a recumbent stationary bike for home use, and it stinks! There is no removable parts to wash. I assume the smell is in the seat and back and the grip things on the handles, but dont know what to do to remove it.How do you clean home fitness equipment?Lysol was the best answer if you don't wish to get your hands wet. If you don't mind, then try a bucket of water w/bleach and your favorite scented anything after. Wipe down EVERYTHING on the bike especially those things you believe may be hosting the scent. Use VERY hot water so that it dries rather quickly. Then spray it with your favorite scented spray or wipe it down with your favorite scented oil. How do you clean home fitness equipment?Perhaps if you spray the seat and handles with Lysol...or how about Fabreez?

How can I start a fitness and health diet program at school?
I am EXTREMELY CONCERNED about all of the overweight kids in the halls, blocking my way.How can I start a fitness and health diet program at school?Perhaps you could suggest to your principal that your school could develop a lunchtime program where students could discuss fitness and health issues. This program could also be integrated into any existing P.E. program.I think issues such as promoting good health through fitness and diet can be made to appeal to all students. Guest speakers could be brought in to speak on a variety of topics.Students could have a suggestion box and put in requests for possible topics.Does your school have an after school cooking club? This could be another option for learning how to be creative with meals that are nutritious and satisfying. If you have a written proposal to submit to your principal your idea will be taken more seriously.By the way I would omit the part about people blocking the hall if you want them to read your proposal. Good luckHow can I start a fitness and health diet program at school?
Thanks for the vote Lori.I also think that having your ideas written out would also make your suggestions sound more serious.Take care.
well, you cant control other ppl. i cant tell if you want to help them or are being selfish and wish others to MOVE. but what you can do is talk to your vp of student activiters, set up a club, hold rallies, "play day" encouraghing physical activity and look to your school cafeteria to increase the food qualitly, and health rate in the food. most of the fat comes from there. also, be persistent in your p.e. class. if you are, others will follow. but give it time. the second semester is almost over, so develop a plan with your school over the summer and propose it to the district in the fall. good luck! How can I start a fitness and health diet program at school?Gosh, I know hoow you feel. They'll think that you're prejedudiced agaiinst the fat kids. Just voice your concerns and don't say it's b/c they block your way. Use their poor health and obesity related health problems. At my sons school, during the entire month of May, they walk twice a day around the playgroound and the track. In the beginning of the month they are timed on their first walk. At the end of the month they are timed again. And the kids with the best time and biggest change are rewarded with prizes. All the kids win regardless, b/c they are learning a good habit that lasts. Lori, this is just my opinion, but if they are happy with the way they look, who are you to judge them. if you thought that you looked great, but someone else thought you were ugly, would you chane for them, now im hoping that you dont say yes, because you are your own great person, %26amp; you should not have to change for a person that doesnt know your situation.

This is a really good idea. I also share your concern. I'm extremely lucky to have active parents. Since I was younger my parents ensured my brother and I ate healthy and did plenty of exercise.
Some children aren't lucky enough for that. I have friends who have fish and chips/KFC/Mc Donald's atleast 5times a week. I don't understand how it is possible to do that.
My friend and I are starting an anti-smoking programme at our school. Most of our friends smoke (although it is a matter of choice) we are concerned about their health.
We wrote our Head Master a letter informing him of our concern. He discussed this at the staff meeting and the teachers agreed it was a good idea.
Then we made an appointment for a meeting with him. We suggested we would like to produce an anti-smoking seminar for the young students. Which he agreed with.
I suggest you take the same path. If you havn't already, write your Head Master a letter of your concern and how you suggest to improve it. For example, healthier school lunches, compulsory physical education etc.
Obesity has become an epidemic and so many people are dying each year from it. I don't think it is a case of whether people are happy and leave them be. Obesity can be similar to suicide. Some people just eat and eat until they are so sick. Then their families are left with the pain and loss, just like suicide.
Good on you for having the initiative! I hope they don't hurt you on the way to your classes!
(P.S. I think we can answer each others questions if we are going to be civil. Do you agree? I believe we are mature enough.)
Good luck!

What kind of yoga is best for fitness?
I know all yoga has benefits. Which variety is best for building strength and fitness? What kind of yoga is best for fitness?Ashtanga is great, like the above answer says. However, I find a traditional ashtanga practice to be too rigid - it's the exact same poses every class, and much of the primary series (which will be the focus of most ashtanga classes you get at gyms, studios, etc.) is a seated sequence that I find rather monotonous. In most ashtanga classes, each posture is held for 5 breaths.
I prefer a vinyasa flow style or "power yoga" class (which has roots in ashtanga, but is not as rigid - its sequencing is pretty much up to the instructor). In terms of strength and fitness, Bikram Yoga is great for cardio/strength - it is a fixed sequence of 26 postures done in a room heated to 90-something degrees. You will likely either love Bikram or hate it - if you try it, be sure to hydrate well in the 24 hours before you go, and bring a lot of water and a large towel (or 2) - you sweat a LOT (I'm not a fan of this form of yoga, for a couple of reasons, one being that I get so dehydrated afterwards no matter how much water I drink that I get pounding headaches; also I find it hard to hold some of the postures when I am literally soaked from head to toe). The purpose of heating the room to such a degree is that your muscles are more pliable as they heat up, and you can more easily get into postures.
Other types I find physically challenging - Jivamukti, Iyengar (can be a slower flow, but is challenging because you hold the poses for longer and really focus on alignment), Forrest (each pose is held for a really long time) and Taoist (I had a great Taoist teacher who moved away - most studios don't offer this style, it's not really mainstream in my experience).
Types that you may want to stay away from (more spiritual and/or restorative than physical) - Kundalini, Kripalu, Svaroopa. Hatha classes can be harder, or more geared towards beginners - it really depends on the instructor.
Good luck - I've been practicing yoga for about 4 years, and it is one of the best things I ever started doing. If I can help with class/studio recommendations in your area, let me know! What kind of yoga is best for fitness?Tantra

What kind of yoga is best for fitness?I prefer the Bikram style myself. I've done some others and see benefits but Bikram is the one for me. The room is actually heated to 105-110% and they try to maintain a 50-60% humidity. You need to hydrate A LOT before and afterwards but it's gread for cleansing, cardio, and fitnessReport Abuse

But before you try ask your landlord to make sure its ok. Then you can go to Low es or any big box store and buy a stud finder. How much is membership at LA fitness?
I'm planning on attending gym because I feel that I need to lose weight...and I was thinking I sign up at LA fitness. How much is membership at LA fitness?I've had a lot of experiences with crash diet program, pills, and fitness programs. None of these worked for me for the long term. Usually a program that recognizes that a weight control program which is focused on long term weight control is the only type of program that works. The only place I've found on the web that seems to recognize all this is old crow ink. Try them. One of their programs might work for you.

What is the Wii Sports Fitness Age based on?
I've been playing the Wii Sports Fitness Challenge for a while and got an age of 23 : ) But is this age only based on your scores on the three games or how long it takes you to complete the challenges? or maybe something else all together? What is the Wii Sports Fitness Age based on?Your score is based on how well you did in ALL THREE challenges.
And... the best "age" that you can get is actually "20"... NOT "22" like someone else said.
So... if you just PRACTICE those challenges a lot and then take the "Fitness Test"... you'll get an age of 20 in no time!!

How can I get my fitness back?
I have just got over having chronic fatigue for at least 6 months. I was 14 and am soon turning 15. I used to be very athletic and did several martial arts, which I'm hoping to get back into later on this year. I am currently back at school full time but am very unfit. The other day I tried going flat-out on my punching bag for 2 minutes but then suffered lot's of muscle pains the next day. What are some good ways I can get my fitness back quicker? How can I get my fitness back?1) If you diet, you will get fat. (I know that sounds harsh... but it's true.) If you want to get slim, look at athletic slim GUYS who do it. We DONT diet. and we aren't frail, weak, and sick all the time, like anorexic people are.
2) The key isn't fruits, veggies, and nuts. the key is to eat all five food groups equally! You have to eat ALL OF THE FOOD GROUPS- and eat the healthiest foods from all of those food groups.
3) Eat 5-7 small meals a day, except eat a BIG breakfast!
4) What foods NOT to eat include: DONT EAT any fast food, artificial food, junk food, microwaved food, processed food, frozen food, sodas, carbonated beverages, caffeinated beverages, energy drinks, candy, or anything that isn't either organic or VERY nutritious and healthy.
5) YES you have to eat meat.
6) You ARE going to start eating fish. It is the healthiest meat. If you dont eat fish, you WILL NEVER get slim and sexy like most of those movie stars... THEY ALL EAT FISH!
Tuna is the best... if you don't like any other types of fish, AT LEAST eat tuna, and lobster and crab are ALSO very healthy, and high in protein.
7) The key isn't ANY SPECIFIC foods. The key is to get AS MUCH OF A NATURAL VARIETY AS YOU CAN to the foods! For example, for vegetables: go in the vegetable aisle and pick out a bunch of different vegetables, and find recipes to cook them in- if not, just eat them in a salad. pick out different veggies each time!
The only thing this doesn't apply to is dairy- dairy should either be organic whole milk, or organic whole yogurt. NO lowfat as they put chemicals in it to make up for the loss of taste... and NO low-sugar as they put chlorinated artificial sweeteners in it!
Healthy fat (as in not the saturated fat or trans fats, but the regular fats) are HEALTHY and are burned off thru exercise... in my experience, having a regular supply of these makes me feel smarter, more awake, and my muscles heal faster.
=================================
8) More than anything else:
The key to losing weight and being healthy is to exercise. And I DONT MEAN EXERCISE as in WALK/JOG AROUND THE BLOCK. I mean exercise as in hard, grueling, intense, dynamic, varied, and challenging work-outs that push your muscles, heart, and lungs to the max. These work-outs should be around 2-3 hours a day, and should involve lifting upper body one day, and lower body the next day. They should also have sprinting one day, and long distance running the next day. lastly, they should have conditioning and speed-training for the upper body as well...... as well as balancing exercises, yoga, meditation, fast-paced sports for coordination, and martial arts for discipline.
If you do #8 and neglect #1-7, you will be 100 TIMES BETTER OFF than if you do #1-7 but neglect #8! EXERCISE IS THE MAIN KEY TO EVERYTHING! THIS IS WHY ANIMALS ARE NEVER FAT... EVEN IF THEY EAT CRAP! CUZ THEY EXERCISE ALL THE TIME!
Source(s):
however, here are some specific healthy foods:
meats- fish, tuna, turkey, chicken, venison (deer), lobster/crab
fruits- apples, apricots, bananas, blueberries, blackberries, pomegranates, prunes, grapefruits, strawberries, kiwi, mangoes.
vegetables- collard greens, spinach, onions, soy, tofu, sweet potatoes, broccoli, carrots, asparagus, celery, eggplant, tomatoes.
carbs/breads- whole wheat bread, whole grain bread, sweet potatoes (again), organic granola, oats, millets, rye, brown rice,

In conclusion: Here is what your exercise plan should look like (rough outline). It should be around 2-3 hours, depending on how quick you do the stuff.

How crowded is the LA Fitness in Vista, Ca?
Also, how hard is it to get a good deal on a membership? I'm looking for free enrollment (or discounted) and I would like to spend about 20-25 bucks a month. Is that possible? I heard LA Fitness was on the pricey side, but its so close to my place! How crowded is the LA Fitness in Vista, Ca?I know LA fitness is offering free enrollment for family members of members, so if you know anyone who goes there just pretend you are their family :p I think LA fitness is about 30 bucks a month but I'm not too sure. The one in Chula Vista isn't incredibly crowded, but I've never been to the one in Vista. LA fitnesses are really nice and kept clean unlike a lot of gyms in our area. Hope this helps! How crowded is the LA Fitness in Vista, Ca?you won't find any "good" gym memberships for around that price. usually you can find one that'll offer you 3 days a week and single club or something for that kind of price, but that is still kinda low. if you're in college, try your schools gym. that is usually free and just as good. if you're worried about it being crowded, try to hit the gym before 3pm or after 9pm.

Wii Fit Plus or fitness games with XBOX Kinect?
I have both a Wii and an XBOX 360. I really want to get the Wii Fit Plus bundle, but I was wondering what the fitness games (like Your Fitness Evolved) for the Kinect are like. Which is better? I would be interested to hear a comparison and why you prefer either one. I basically want to know which has more value and is more worth having, as far as using for fitness/workouts at home.Wii Fit Plus or fitness games with XBOX Kinect?I have Wii Fit Plus and it seems to work.. But what I like about Kinect is: it's probably best for fitness/ exercise games since it senses what your whole body is doing. You might be able to get a more accurate work-out using the Kinect instead.Wii Fit Plus or fitness games with XBOX Kinect?I have a kinect at my house and I am in fairly good shape, and i can say the kinect is a mighty workout. As long as you participate in the games you will be getting a workout, and what makes it so great is that you can actually play FUN games and still get a great workout. I would have to recommend the kinect for sure :D

How about jyms and fitness clubs in Tokyo?
are they good? what prices are?
I'm from Europe, we have a lots of gym and fitness clubs with not expensive good prices! How about jyms and fitness clubs in Tokyo? They are good. But they are expensive. It's like 10000 yen (EUR 70) for 1 month.
If you want cheaper one, you may find public gyms which are almost free buy have less machines than private gyms. How about jyms and fitness clubs in Tokyo? There are many fitness clubs in Tokyo. There are many choices and each have their own added values and special features. Compared to clubs in the USA, group exercise seems to have more popularity in Japan. This is evident in the large number of classes offered and the large number of people attending.
The bigger gyms have pools and a large number of weight machines. There are usually a good number of treadmills and elliptical machines. Medium sized gyms may not have the pool and less machines. One thimg common I have noticed is the low number of free weights and power racks in Japan compared to clubs and gyms in the USA.
Yes, prices are higher for these clubs in Japan.

How important is fitness in regards to being able to perform your karate well?
I have seen some Black belt instructors who look a bit out of shape , is this okay ?How important is fitness in regards to being able to perform your karate well?It defiently plays a huge part, and I agree an instructor needs to be in the best shape possible.
however many of thes eyoung people do not realise what it is like to get older. In a true martial art your body takes a beating. You get injuries. this is not bad when you are younger, but as you get older the body takes longer to heal. You also gain weigth more easily because you can't work out as hard when injured. It also takes longer to lose the weight.
So yes an instructor does need to be in good shape. but age and overall health do play a factor. How important is fitness in regards to being able to perform your karate well?absolutely not. fitness is just as important to technique as the technique its self. the instructors or the black belts that do get out of shape aren't training anymore, so they aren't improving and they are actually loosing what they once had.How important is fitness in regards to being able to perform your karate well?I don't think it sets a good example. But if they can still perform to the level they have advanced to, power to them I guess. I always thought being in good shape was important to developing great skill in martial arts. Some people are lazy though, and many instructors shouldn't be instructors to begin with. How important is fitness in regards to being able to perform your karate well?
To really answer this question we would have to define "fitness" and decide what we mean by "perform karate well". but I think I know what you're getting at- is a high level more valuable than fitness when it come to a match or fight? Who wins- the highly skilled, out of shape person or the highly fit, poorly skilled? That is simply a matter of whether the skilled person can subdue the fit person quickly, before fitness becomes a factor. why take chances? Work on the fitness.
Fitness will always helps the skilled and unskilled; lack of fitness always hurts both.vin number argus

What is the first step to becoming a personal trainer (fitness expert)?
I would like to know what should be my #1 step. I think its that I should start focusing on my own health (diet and fitness)...but other than that, what can I do?
If its not too lengthy, what are the next few steps?
Any tips? Personal experience? What is the first step to becoming a personal trainer (fitness expert)? You got it...the first step is getting yourself in shape, and that's done with knowledge. You have to learn all about calories and eating, anatomy and physiology, exercise and fitness, and lastly about implementing fitness programs for different populations. A good personal trainer is a good role model...and coach, and teacher, and mentor...you have to inspire people and keep them motivated, and it helps to have personal anecdotes to share when the going gets rough. I started with a personal quest...I wanted to get into shape; so I learned all about diets and fitness, and eventually I moved on to sharing my knowledge with others. It hasn't always been fun or easy, but it is a rewarding career with intrinsic as well as extrinsic reward. I think you've made the right choice, let me know if you need any more information. What is the first step to becoming a personal trainer (fitness expert)? This is a field you can get certified in. Find out how, get the manual and study it thoroughly. You also must be fit (physically strong and able to run at least 3 miles).

A question about fitness standards mentally and physically in police work?
Do you believe that women who pass all the same physical and mental standards and tests are much more likely to be more effective police officers in the field, and possess the running speed, fighting skill, as well as courage and indignation to defeat and arrest criminals and catch them than those who only pass through double or female standards? I think so definitely. I think only the best, the strongest, and the most intelligent of men and women should be allowed to be cops. Simply put, only the qualified should get the job, and not through quotas or the double standard.A question about fitness standards mentally and physically in police work? There is no double standard in my state. Males and females do the exact same tests.
Speed and strength are certainly things to consider. However, common sense, decision making ability, and communication skills will prevent you from needing to be fast or strong almost all the time.
Keep in mind statistics show 98% of police contacts involve no use of force at all. Because these contacts are uneventful, you never see them publicized. You only see the 2% because the public finds them newsworthy.

I am a person who has not worked out in years. I am a 30 years old female and trying to lose about a 150 pounds. How long should I do cardio and how long should I lift weights. I don't even know where to start with lifting weights. Where should I start with lifting weights. What kind of fitness program should I use when I am trying to lose weight? If you have that much weight to lose, I'd recommend starting a weight lifting regimen 2-3 days per week, on say TR (Tues and Thurs) or MWF (Mon, Wed, Fri) and do some sort of cardio on the other days. I'd recommend getting a gym membership at a local YMCA, they will show you how to use the machines available for weight lifting and also the cardio machines.
If you need to lose 150 lbs, you should start off your cardio by walking and increase the distance, then increase the intensity (speed). The faster you go, the more you will burn off after you are done, however if you do too much too early you will be less willing to continue, so start off slow and work your way up.
As for weight training, I'd recommend doing 2-3 sets of each exercise for 6-10 repetitions. Alternate between repetitions and heavier weights (on M do reps, W do heavy, F do reps). Make sure you work your legs out and your back also because they are the largest muscle groups you have, therefore they will burn more calories.
The next thing is to eat a balanced and healthy diet, don't starve yourself because you will need energy to exercise, but also don't eat much more than 2500 calories a day either (decrease your intake slowly, this way your body will know you are not starving yourself).
Lastly, begin a flexibility regimen, make sure you stretch after your workouts and before you go to bed. This will make your muscles more pliable and will help with soreness the next day.
Good luck and I hope this helps. What kind of fitness program should I use when I am trying to lose weight? The best way to lose weight is by doing these two things:
1) Have a healthy and balanced permanent diet: dark green vegetables, fresh fruits, whole wheat and whole grain products, non-fat dairy products, fish, poultry breast, lean red meat, egg white.
2) Start exercising
Aerobic and weight training will raise your metabolic rate.
Aerobic Exercising:
3 times per week, conduct an exercise that keeps your heart rate elevated for at least 30-45 minutes (ex: walking, running, cycling, swimming, aerobics)
Weight Training:
Alternate days of aerobics with weight training. You will build muscles that will burn more calories, even when at rest!

What kind of fitness and body shape, strength would you need to be in martial arts?
I understand you need to be flexable, How does one get better at being flexable? I want to do martial arts but I also want to get some muscel on me, and get stronger, Are the best martial artists skinny guys?
What kind of body would you need for Martial arts? What kind of fitness and body shape, strength would you need to be in martial arts? You can be of pretty much ANY body shape in the martial arts. Both Sammo Hung and Jackie Chan trained in some of the same arts, with Jackie being of medium build and Sammo being a fat guy. Sammo also trained in Wing Chun, which little man Bruce Lee helped to make famous. Bolo Yeung, the big muscular fighter from "Enter the Dragon" was a champion TKD competitor before he ever hit the big screen.
Some arts actually make this known through their teachings. Tong Lun (Praying Mantis) offers a variety of tactics to suit a variety of fighter types, from small guys ("mouse running") to big ones ("elephant strikes"). That's part of the significance of the different animal styles and elements, that there's some thing for pretty much everyone in the arts.
The thing is, you don't even HAVE to be especially flexible. You can train as much as a runner in flexibility, just enough to be able to move as fast as you can without getting cramps, as a martial artist. Most southern Chinese kung fu systems (and the kenpo styles that come from them) focus on using low kicks so much that you'd never be taught to kick high in those arts. It's really the ego of western stylists that has them training for such, not an actual requirement of their arts.
The best martial artists are NOT skinny guys. The best martial artists are those that can both give a good strike and can take one, as well as being able to get out of the way as much as possible. One good strike from a medium-sized man can end the fight for a man that is too thin, something I've seen a number of times (it's kind of funny, actually). No matter what your style, you cannot block or evade absolutely everything; there's comes a time, either when you least expect it or when you are under the weather, that you miss something.
Your most famous MA fighters have had a balance of speed and power, which simply is not found in skinny people. Chuck Norris was/ is of medium build, as was/ is Bill "Superfoot" Wallace. Joe Lewis was a little more toward the muscle side, certainly not a small man. Look at all of your famous MA fighters and their competitors to get a more realistic perspective of the range of people in the arts.
Lots of MA guys work out for strength. Most will do so through non-weight resistance training (such as resistance bands and push-ups/ pull-ups/ calisthenics) because the common myth is that bulky muscle of slower. So, by all means, do what you have to for building up in strength and muscular endurance.
.What kind of fitness and body shape, strength would you need to be in martial arts?
It all depends on your Personality. Visit schools in your area and you may be able to try out a class or two or just watch. Learning Martial Arts is a lot more than just getting in good shape, it is bettering yourself as a person. A good dojo will have stretching, strengthening and of course the techniques. There are many good web sites and books written and you can check out what the different styles are about. As you start you will be new and it takes at least 6 weeks before you can begin to see a difference and have it all make sense.
Just jump in there and try it out, most people think about it but never try. If it is a good dojo and instructor you will get in good shape and learn a lot of philosophy too. Mind, Body %26amp; Spirit
Open Heart, Open Arms, Open Mind... Go for it!What kind of fitness and body shape, strength would you need to be in martial arts?re: flexible
You stretch. There are many stretching exercises both western and eastern that help. Yoga helps. Tai Chi helps. Ki Aikido helps.
re: stronger
pump iron, and so some aerobic exercises to bring heart rate up.
re: martial arts
Most martial artists are on the trim, fit skinny side. Judo seems to collect the more rounded bunch. Judo and Karate seem to be shorter and stocky. Aikido, Kendo, Kenpo iaido seems to favor the taller set.
but manly do what interests you. What kind of fitness and body shape, strength would you need to be in martial arts?
To be in a martial arts--all it requires is will-power. The majority of the people that goes into martial arts aren't flexible or muscular from the start. You can be large, small, fat, skinny, lean, or plump. It really doesn't matter much except of your adaptability and skill.
Because as they say, looks can be deceiving. What kind of fitness and body shape, strength would you need to be in martial arts? You don't need flexibility, but it's a plus. You don't need great strength either, but it's a plus. You don't have to be in any specific kind of shape to training in martial arts. What kind of fitness and body shape, strength would you need to be in martial arts?
I depends on what kind of martial art you intend to practice. For example if you want to practice Sumo, you have to be fat. If you want to practice judo or jiujitsu you got to be strong. But for other arts like karate, taekwondo, etc, any of these can work well.
stretching increaces ur flexibility, stretch every day and that will help a shitload mate. yeh ur 100% right the skinny blokes tend to do best in martial arts.. work on repitition rather than how much weight you lift..nada guides bubble pop

Its not too strenuous. What are the fitness requirements to join the Household Cavalry? It's the same as any other army unit - the basic entrance levels are all equal - check on the MOD website what they are. You'll find you need a lot of fitness for Knightsbridge, but that will come through riding school.
You might find that you go to Knightsbridge first, most lads don't want to go there it's f%26amp;*(ing hard work, then after 2 years you go to the regiment.
But to answer the comments left by others - The officers are posh as hell! It'sthe same throughout the Guards division, when I was in (95-01) they had to have a 2nd income of something like 拢20,000 a year, others wouldn't get their inheritance until they reached the rank of Captain! However, the lads are just lads really!
Good bunch, no major difference between regiments (LG %26amp; RHG/D) but a lot of pride in each!

What does a fitness trainer working in a Chiropractic office make per hour?
I'm a certified personal trainer with over 20 years experience. I'm talking with a Chiropractor about working in his office helping his patients with exercise. Are there any others in a similar situation who can tell me how much you are paid per session or per hour? I live in the Chicago area. Thanks. What does a fitness trainer working in a Chiropractic office make per hour? There are about a million variables, but you can usually count on getting paid about half what the office can bill for the services. What do you need to become a fitness trainer ?
im planning on going to santa monica college and getting a degree in kinesiology but is that enough or should i go to a vocational school and get a certificate in fitness training too..to have higher possibilities of being hired...and how long would it take to become one and is 5'2 too short to be a fitness trainer??What do you need to become a fitness trainer ?Most gyms require a certification for employment as a trainer. ACE and NASM are good certs. A degree in kinesiology will make getting your cert a cakewalk and increase your initial credibility, although in the end your clients' success will guarantee your success. A degree will make you immediately hireable though, no worries there. You are not too short to train, it's the quality of your training and attitude that matter. What do you need to become a fitness trainer ?I've never seen a sign saying you have to be this tall to be a competent fitness leader. Many personal training certifications are actually quite Mickey Mouse and can be done over a couple weekends (which is scary considering how many of these "trainers" are symbols of fitness excellence to the average person). A degree in kinesiology carries alot more weight than most certs. Stay in school. Get a cert as well but remember your education when it comes to assessing clients properly. What do you need to become a fitness trainer ?I am good friends with few trainers, and yea if thats what you wanna do then a degree would be great.
If you can't get a degree or even if you do....you'll wann be in great shape.
I would say that is more important than a degree. Get into running races and make yourself known as an athlete and you should be able to find a job.
Good luck!
Oh yea and height doesn't matter.p411 ameren missouri

How much aerobic fitness work should I do?
I play football in the position centre midfield. This en tales a lot of running up and down the pitch. I am not overweight but need to increase my stamina.
I am thinking of doing regular running or cycling, but how far, how quick and for how long should I do this? How much aerobic fitness work should I do?if you want more stamina and to lose weight faster. then i would suggest doing interval training as this is a great cardio exercise to burn fat and increase stamina. try this routine
jog for 2 minutes, then sprint for a 1 minute, and continue doing this about 10 times. this will give you great gains. Also do interval training in the morning before breakfast, as this is the best time of day to burn fat, but if you can't do it in the morning then any other time is fine as long as you do it, and do this 2 times a week and no more, and for the other days just do simple jogging. also watch your diet too, and stay away from fatty foods i.e. crisps, sweets, choc, fast food etc.
good luck

Would it be cheaper for my mom to add me to her golds account or to join club fitness?
i believe golds is like 30 a month and club fitness is 20.
i wanna know if there is a deal for golds.Would it be cheaper for my mom to add me to her golds account or to join club fitness?Gold's Gym near my house is having a special for $20/month for 1 year membership. but after the 1 time sign up fee, it's like $275/year. I asked if I could pay them all at once and they said OK, it's $275 for a year. I think it is cheap.
Maybe you mom has a health insurance plan that will reimburse her some $. Some Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans will reimburse up to $150.Would it be cheaper for my mom to add me to her golds account or to join club fitness?well, using simple mathematics, i would say club fitness is cheaper since 20 is less than 30.

What are the fitness requirements for being a crime scene investigator?
I'm a 15 year old girl and I want to become a crime scene investigator. The problem is that I'm very skinny and short, and I think I'm supposed to be able to lift heavy stuff, etc. I could run after a suspect fine and everything, but tackling them or wrestling things away from them would be almost impossible (I try to do it to my dad %26amp; brother a lot). If I took classes on self defense would that be sufficent? What are the fitness requirements for being a crime scene investigator?A crime scene investigator usually doesn't have to run after or tackle suspects. So I wouldn't worry about that. What you'll need more than anything is a forensic anthropology degree. So concentrate on getting educated for now.

Is 24 Hour Fitness a Gym for a hardcore weight lifter?
I am looking to switch to 24 hour fitness from Mountain Side because of how much money i will save. I was wondering if the gym isn't just a bunch of treadmills and that's it. Does it have a really versatile free weight section that is meant for serious weight lifters. Also are they generally packed? Is 24 Hour Fitness a Gym for a hardcore weight lifter?Good lord, where to begin...
I have actually been considering getting a different gym membership because of these same exact reasons.
#1 It's freakin ridiculously packed in the morning which is around 7-9AM and also at night (5-8PM) which makes it really inconvenient for me to find time to lift. But recently it hasn't been all that bad because the one i go to has 3 squat racks, and usually no one is using the squat racks, but i've been to the other 24 hour fitness's around my area (san jose, CA) and they usually only have 1 or 2 squat racks. As far as the bench goes...good luck, those are almost always in use. But something i found pretty interesting is that whenever i ask someone who is on the bench or squat rack or any machine/weight rack how many sets they have left, they usually answer something along the lines of "Oh im done" with a nervous look on their face. This is most likely due to the fact that most people at 24 don't really have a training regimen, so they just kind of jump on whatever machine/rack is available. So concluding this part of the answer, 24 does have its time where it gets pretty packed and all machines/racks are in use but trying to work in or asking usually seems to work.
#2 The free weights equipment could be a lot better and i would consider subpar at best. Most of the ones i've been too have around 3-4 bench racks and 1-3 squat racks and maybe a military press area, and oh yes the preacher curl rack. If your looking more for machines, your in luck as this is machine heaven, I myself dont tend to really use any of the machines so much except for the cable station which i have found pretty useful,. Most of the 24's have usually 1-2 of this type of machine as well. There are 0 olympic weightlifting stations at all 24's as they do not advocate this type of lifting in any way shape or form, meaning no bumper plates and no olympic racks. They also do not have any power racks which is pretty useful if you want to use bands but since 24 does not invest in power racks you can throw bands (usually used for tension on a bar) out of your routine. Oh and to add they don't have any trap bars (generally used for deadlifting) at any 24 fitness as well. So again to conclude this portion, it's pretty decent for someone who is in their beginning/novice/intermediate stages of lifting, but depending on what you want (size vs strength and yes it does make a difference in your routine and equip you will use) its more geared towards bodybuilding but nonetheless you can strength train just as evenly as well, As i have done both at most 24's ive visited.
Hopefully this can clarify some things you had in mind, good luck on the transition if any, and always keep up the lifting. Is 24 Hour Fitness a Gym for a hardcore weight lifter?Depends. Most locations have everything you will need. 2-3 squat racks, 4-8 barbell benches, 4-8 dumbbell benches and dumbbells up to 125lbs in some locations. However, we do not have platforms for deadlifts and do not allow you to use chalk which some people prefer.
I had a dream I was showering in a Fitness Jim and my 10 year old was with me?

Water is the universal symbol for emotions. How water looks and behaves in a dream is very significant. Here are some meanings for different water dreams:
A dream of drinking cold water is a sign of good luck.
Throwing or spilling water on anyone indicates a need to control your temper.
Hot water foretells a season of social setbacks.
Hearing or seeing running water predicts lasting happiness.
Rising water indicates rising emotions.
A waterfall in your dream forecasts a happy rise in social status.
Turbulent, choppy waters, in which a dreamer fears being swamped or drowning, symbolizes that you are being overwhelmed emotionally.
Tidal waves may symbolize specific threats that loom in the distance.
Being caught in a swift moving current suggests being swept up in your emotions.
Cloudy water suggests lack of emotional clarity.
Gently flowing water promises contentment and peace of mind.
Clean, clear water suggests good sense and emotional clarity.
If you dream that you are able to breathe underwater, you are open to unconscious feelings and psychic awarenesses.
If you dream of having the power to control water, this symbolizes your spiritual and intellectual growth. You are not using your full potential - you have considerable energy and mental abilities, and you need to start using them to put your thoughts into action. Controlling water in a dream may also indicate a need to control your temper better.
To dream of walking on water means that you have supreme control over your emotions. It may suggest that you should keep your emotions contained, so they don't explode. This dream can also symbolize faith in yourself.window tint map of united states with cities

When and how should i APPLY for a 24hr fitness BEING BUILT?
there is a 24hr fitness in progress close to my house. the website says the due date is in winter of 2008 it will be finished. i want to work there! but, i know most jobs allow you to apply before it is finished. how should i go about doing so? website? at the building site?
thanks! When and how should i APPLY for a 24hr fitness BEING BUILT?Sometimes at the building site there will be a poster that has the website in which you can apply at. If you are really confused, call a 24 Hour Fitness hotline and get instructions from them on what to do. I would definitely check the building site and the website first though. You don't want to be disqualified as a candidate for the job just because you didn't know what to do.

I am moving away mid next month and was wondering if you would have to pay for the full month at lifetime fitness, or would they prorate it?Do you have to pay a full monthly fee if you quit mid month at lifetime Fitness?Read your contract. They probably would expect the full monthly fee, and maybe a cancellation fee or as much as payment for the full contract. Your contract will say - if it doesn't mention any accommodations for moving out of the area, legally they can hold you responsible for the full length of the contract.
What is a good name for an elementary kids fitness program?
I'm in student leadership academy and our group decided to go to one of our surrounding elementary schools and start a fitness program. It's suppose to be fun and get the kids aware that being active is important.
BUT the only thing is, we need a short and catchy name.
Any ideas?
Thank you!! :]What is a good name for an elementary kids fitness program?to quote the brilliant simon pegg, "run fatboy run".
Obviously, you could tweak it to better suit your needs as a student planning this, perhaps "run fat kid run" or "ohai! twinkies!". Now, if you're in some of the southern states, you could just as easily walk into the school and scream "BORDER PATROL", but that may also result in the staff to vacate as well. True story.
Really though, just call it "Chuck Norris School For Kids Who Can't Run Fast (and Want To Learn To Do Other Stuff Fast Too)". You may need to change the way you drive home every day though, Norris may get angry at you for using his name without paying 16million in royalties.

What are the benefits of signing up for LA Fitness?
I am interested in joining a gym and have heard good things about LA Fitness. How much does it cost? And is there a cost for the extra classes such as pilates, yoga, etc? Thanks :)What are the benefits of signing up for LA Fitness?Generally LA Fitness is a pretty good gym if you're interested in no frills but want a gym that doesn't smell like a locker room. No towels, no long term renting of lockers, and personal fitness trainers cost extra. The classes are free but often the scheduling is not terribly convenient. It's actually a pretty good value for what it is.What are the benefits of signing up for LA Fitness?if you really like to fit...

Reasons for the increase in teen obesity, Type 2 diabetes and the decrease in teen physical fitness levels in?
I have to do an essay that's do tomorrow for health class.
1) I need to write reasons on why teen obesity has in creased.
2) diabetes
3) The decrease in teen physical fitness levels in the past 10 years.
I went to google but i want to find other information, Do you know any other websites or what I can write in my essay?
Thanks for you help!Reasons for the increase in teen obesity, Type 2 diabetes and the decrease in teen physical fitness levels in?The first cause of teenage obesity is the kind of food that teenagers eat. It is a well known fact that teenagers love junk food, but these foods are very rich in fats, oil and cholesterol. This inadvertently harms the system of the teenagers, and this ends up in the individual becoming obese. With the vast expansion of fast food chains around the country today, it is no surprise that this is the single biggest cause.
The next factor that leads to teenage obesity is the lack of physical exercise. With the advancements in the computer world, and especially the video games industry, more and more teenagers choose to sit in at home and play with their gadgets. This lifestyle habit has led to the birth of the term 'couch potato'. This ultimately results in a total lack of exercise, and the teenager thus starts living a sedentary lifestyle. Both these factors combined, have led to the drastic rise in the levels of teenage obesity in the country.
Some of the possible dangers of teenage obesity are as follows.
Increased danger of heart diseases.
High cholesterol levels in the body.
High blood pressure levels.
Greater possibility of contracting Type 2 diabetes.
Social discrimination resulting in lowered self esteem.
Teenagers who are obese are more likely to be obese in their adulthood as well, and this increases the chances of serious heart conditions and other disorders in the future. Adopting weight loss methods as soon as possible is something that should be paid attention to.
The best way to prevent or reduce teenage obesity is to ensure that the individual gets plenty of physical exercise. Visiting the gym on a regular basis, or taking up a sport is the best way to achieve this. If this is not possible, then even something as simple as talking a walk everyday, or going for a jog everyday, will be extremely beneficial. The prevention of teenage obesity can only occur by putting an end to a sedentary lifestyle.
This also involves eating a healthy diet and a balanced diet. Consuming fruits and vegetables will aid in the purification of the system. The biggest responsibility of the parents is to ensure that the child does not spend an excessive amount of time on the computer, or playing video games, since this is one of the biggest contributors to teenage obesity.
Battling the possibility of teenage obesity is something that needs to be done over the course of a teenagers life, and this also helps prevent childhood obesity. In spite of this, it is never too late to start living a healthy life, and ensuring that teenagers do not fall into this trap.
Hope this helps.Reasons for the increase in teen obesity, Type 2 diabetes and the decrease in teen physical fitness levels in?Hi!
