Before last week, I was logging about 12 miles a week, in three runs. Last week, I ran 4 miles on Monday, and 3 miles on Saturday. I simply felt really bored of running and had no motivation to run at all. This week I haven't run at all - and probably won't until later on this week (Thursday - Saturday.) Will this set back my running fitness significantly? Will taking time off of running significantly set back my fitness? No, hardly at all. It sounds like you have overtrained, "simply felt really bored of running and had no motivation to run at all". Either you are running too much or too fast. Make the necessary adjustments.
Good luck! Will taking time off of running significantly set back my fitness?
Not really - they reckon that if you just stop training it takes about 2 weeks to start to loose your fitness.
If you had a light week last week ans a light week this week then your next run might seem a bit harder than it should be.
However you also gain from having the rest, your body can repair any small damages to it and that can leave you more capable of continuing your training programme, also your body recharges its energy reserves, again making your future running better.
While you have been running have you had a 2 week holiday and in that time did you run? If you have had a non running holiday then your next run will be similar to the first run after that holiday.
Loosing the will to run is normal and often when that happens to me I need a goal to aim for - 4 mile runs during the week means that you can run a 10k race easily, maybe a 10 mile or half marathon are possible too! HAve a look on runnersworld or somewhere and see if you fancy entering an event as a goal (maybe one at the end of November)Will taking time off of running significantly set back my fitness? So long as there are no more than 4 days between each run, the gains you made in previous workouts are not lost. Detraining doesn't really start to make any significant headway for at least 2 weeks. Will taking time off of running significantly set back my fitness?
Not a whole lot but each day you don't run, will make it tougher to get back into.
If running isn't for you, then try something that you enjoy and then you're more likely to stick with it.Will taking time off of running significantly set back my fitness?Rest is an important part of training. In your case, I think your miles are too low depending on your goals. The sad fact is that you get out of shape faster than you get in shape. Good luck. Will taking time off of running significantly set back my fitness?
It will set it back but not significantly
